The reason I took on this topic was because we all are curious as to how figures in music today redefine our music. There are always those juggernaut stars that everyone remembers from American music. I've found that just searching to see what music is helps to clarify how it can be molded, influenced, and redefined.
We've gone through and questioned what music really is throughout this summer session. This is just a kind of representation of all my thoughts on it coming to a head. We all love music and what it does for us. Looking back through "A conceptual analysis of American programmatic and absolute music," I found that I was slightly biased towards the idea of an absolute music.
Because after music has been stripped of all the glamour and poetry, it should be that the music alone is enough. The quality and purity that comes out of naked music, the detachment of purpose and "meaning." It's easy to get lost in this kind of music, and it was that mystical aspect that drew me closer to it.
American music will continue to be defined and redefined as time goes on. Music will always be music though. And the human element in music will always be there as long as music can take on a life of its own and grow with us.
